I wonder if Hoberman realizes that the word amoral means that it has nothing to do with morality-it is neither morally right or morally wrong. Even murder is moral since it has to do with morality.

I watched this movie last night. Simply amazing. I am in awe at the intensity and provocative violence which the reality of the Culture of Death. Gibson's use of recurring themes in subtle and candid ways really expresses his eye for beautiful cinematography. Also, the dramatization of facial expressions throughout the movie showing the exclamation of man's conscience was shown even in people at the Mayan palace (the mother at the sacrificial altar at one point showing disapproval, the lady who recognizes a man's face in the crowd as she is being carried-I am assuming the man she looked at was at one point her spouse before being taken by the new man) showing that even in the midst of the Culture of Death, man's conscience screams.

I also thought the young obese child at the top of the Mayan sacrificial altar was a great portrayal of how new generations in city-state/modern culture are vulnerable to the temptations for self-serving greed and thirst for death.

oh well, watch the nightly news. so what, people get blown up, all the time, just see Mel's and Martin's movies. oh well, so what. life is just like the movies. so lets just watch the movies. who cares. yes, even within the culture of godspy, the morality of the critics is screamingly silent.
